Well, my views would be that they reflect our recent generation, and that they really did have the power to influence us, especially the teens. The songs that belong to that so-called mainstream music are popular among the masses for a reason, and they shaped our society in a good and bad way.
Even I like mainstream music, but sometimes I just can't stand the message it already brings. Music videos of it are already not advisable to be viewed by children. They're just not the same as the old times. I even thought that I am blessed to live in an era where good music used to be popular, and that was the 90s.
But still, even though it became that undesirable among some people, what the artists now are trying to do is to keep up-to-date with what the society and the music industry would want to hear or would want to offer, respectively. So whether we like it or not, mainstream music would always evolve, for the better or for worse.
Till here :*
